Tonight Micah was the absolutely perfect horse that I have always known/hoped he would be.
He gives me a little challenge here and there, and sometimes we butt heads under saddle, but we understand each other. We both seem to be out there with the same goal – to be worthy of one another. He tries his heart out for the crazy lady that seems to come around a lot and I try to give just as much in return to understand him and make sure he is enjoying life as well.
Mike loped out like a king tonight. And by no means was it show pen perfect. Hell, I don’t even think it could be considered “good”. But it was a little victory for us. He tried…….I asked him to lope and he replied with “Okay” and departed lovely with no buck at all. And then when I asked 3, 4, 5 more times he replied almost exactly the same even when I could tell he was getting pretty tired.
I believe that little victories need to be acknowledged, but be sure to dismiss it just as quickly. I find if you set the bar where you left it last time, you will most likely be disappointed. Treat each encounter and ride as something new. Leave the past in the past and stay present with what you have to work with. Because everyone knows your sweet natured horse you left yesterday, could be a hot mess today.
